A US 9, a UK 8 and an EU 42 are the same shoe on three scales. Measure your foot from heel to longest toe, or start from a size you already wear, and see it on the rest.
These are the standard conversions. Brands sit up to half a size either way, which is why ThisBig works from your foot’s length and says when it is using a standard chart.

A child’s UK size runs to 13½, then starts again at the adult 1. Leave about a centimetre to grow into.
