Write to us about anything: a listing it read wrong, a size that didn’t fit, or what happens to your data. Most questions are answered further down.
How to reach us
A link to the listing, or a screenshot of it, helps more than a description.
Do I need an account?
No. Reading a listing, the drawing and your own sizes all work without one. An account does one thing: keeps your sizes and history the same on your phone and in your browser.
In the app, open My sizes, tap Sync across my devices and sign in with Google or Apple. Or link your computer to your phone with a short code and never sign in at all.
Does it work offline?
Yes, once it’s installed. A typed size, a screenshot or a photo of a tag is read on your phone, and the objects it compares against ship inside the app.
A few things need a connection: a pasted link, because the page has to be fetched; measuring on a sheet of A4, which happens on our server; and signing in and sync.
Why does a result say Estimate, or that it assumed a unit?
Because something had to be assumed, and a drawing at the wrong scale is worse than none. Every result says how sure it is.
- Exact Made to a standard. A sheet of A4 is 210 × 297 mm everywhere.
- Typical A common size rather than a fixed one, like a plastic chair.
- Estimate The listing gave no unit, or no size at all, so ThisBig used what that kind of thing usually measures.
“Unit assumed” means the listing said 12 x 8 x 4 and nothing else. ThisBig picks the unit that makes sense for what it is and says so. Tap the right unit and it redraws.
What are the extension’s permissions for?
Your browser shows a warning for three of them. Here is what each one is for, in the words Chrome and Edge use.
- “Read and change your data on a number of websites”
- The shops it knows, such as Jumia, Konga, Jiji, Amazon and AliExpress, and ThisBig’s own server. On a product page it reads the name, the size details and the size chart, then adds the size under the title. It doesn’t read prices, photos or anything you type.
- “Read and change all your data on all websites”
- Asked for only if you turn on Every other site too in Settings, so it can do the same on shops it doesn’t know.
- “Modify data you copy and paste”
- Copies the drawing so you can paste it into a chat. It never reads what you’ve copied.
- The rest, which show no warning
- activeTab and scripting read the page you’re on when you click the ThisBig button or right-click a size. contextMenus adds that right-click item. sidePanel opens the drawing beside the page. storage keeps your sizes and settings in this browser. identity opens Google’s or Apple’s sign-in window, only if you choose to sign in. alarms checks once a day for new reference objects and, once you’ve linked your phone, syncs.
When it can’t read a size confidently, it sends the page’s link to our server to read, without the part after the ?. Turn that off in Settings with Ask the server when unsure. The privacy policy lists everything it keeps and sends.
How do I delete my data?
On your phone, open My sizes. Delete my measurements clears them from the phone. If sync is on, Delete the copy on our servers removes what we hold, and Delete my account removes the account with it. Uninstalling the app or removing the extension clears what it kept on that device.
No app to hand? You can also ask on the deletion page. What we hold and for how long is in the privacy policy.
Where do I get it?
The store listings aren’t live yet. The home page will link to each one as it opens.
